Our Rates Quality doesn't have to break the bank – especially not with us.

You might well assume that premium quality has to come at a premium price – but that’s not how we work.

Our prices are flexible and matched to your individual needs.

Translations are traditionally charged for based on the number of words in the ‘source language’ document but the price per word can vary widely – even within the same agency – as this all depends on a range of factors such as the nature of the text (including any additional formatting that might be required), the language combination, repetitions, the research potentially involved and the volume of work provided by the client. That said, we find that our average rate is £0.12 per word, so this can act as a good starting point for your calculations.

Minimising Costs How can costs be minimised?

While we would never advise a customer to base their decisions with regard to a translation strategy on cost alone, there are a number of ways in which potential costs can be kept to a minimum.

To start with, it really is advisable to cut your cloth according to your requirements – an internal memo might well need a far less intense and potentially expensive translation process than a marketing brochure or legal document intended for external use, for example.

There are also a range of ways in which customers can facilitate the smooth carrying out of their translation with a view to reducing the time required while simultaneously increasing productivity and consistency.

Here are some key ways in which this can be achieved:

Liaise with our project manager to provide the translator with comprehensive briefing notes in advance. Matters to discuss could include, for example, preferred style, background, previous translations (good or bad) and information on the target audience.

Where possible, provide easily editable files such as Word or Powerpoint documents. While we are happy to work with less flexible file types, such as JPEGs and scanned PDFs, it is worth noting that this can incur a great deal more time and cost expenditure.

Provide glossaries of preferred terminology. Preferably in Excel format, as these can be easily integrated into SDL Trados, the industry-standard translation software used by most professional translators worldwide. If you do not yet have a terminology database, we can set one up for you. Not only will this will save you costs for future translation projects, it will also make a significant contribution to increasing consistency.
